Walking Through the River Without Getting Wet
Park Benches
Have you ever sat on a park bench and looked out at nature? In nature you will see conflict. Animals will get into it with each other from time to time. There are opposing dualistic forces everywhere. They come together, they collide, they fight. And then a minute and a half later it is all over. Conflict in nature is so often fleeting and ephemeral. It usually doesn't last long. Everything seems to dissolve back into one-ness.
Have you ever sat on a park bench and watched humans? Or a bench in a mall or crowded public place? The conflict among humans seems to be ongoing, permeating the entire fabric of the tableau. Where ever you see humans congregating you can feel and often see the |
conflict underlying their existence. Humans seem to be in a constant state of conflict. What the hell is that all about?
We live in a dualy-based reality that is super-ceded by and built out of a reality of one-ness. The duality and one-ness are oxymoronically inseparable. They permeate everything that we see and sense from our park bench. All we have to do is observe nature and we can see this.
But when we observe humans this isn't apparent. Unlike the animals and plants, humans seem to be totally focused in duality and have lost all awareness of the one-ness that permeates all things. Conflicts are not ephemeral but rather ongoing. They fester and grow to ridiculous proportions and lead only to further conflict. From the park bench we can see that humans are utterly stuck in duality and are utterly closed off to one-ness.
But the animals and plants are not. Is it because they are smarter or dumber? Or is "smarter and dumber" a duality that animals and plants are not stuck in? Is their lack of "intelligence" what allows one-ness to flow through their lives? Is human intelligence what blocks one-ness from human experience?
Or is human intelligence the challenge we have presented ourselves with in order to unite one-ness and duality into something we can create with? Is this intelligence a tool we have yet to realize because we are stuck in duality and have not yet opened the floodgates of one-ness? Do we fail to see it because we don't sit on park benches enough? With our brilliant intelligence, what will happen when we surrender to one-ness as nature, without our brilliant intelligence, already has? Is that the human experiment? Animals and plants never sit on park benches observing it all. Are park benches the key to our spiritual evolution and divine self-realization?
Just wondering.......

Nogginology
I must sound like a broken record. I keep blabbering about how we should turn our noggins off, that our conditioned patterned mind loops are blocking the flow of consciousness through our being. It is these habitual, conditioned thinking patterns that block the flow of consciousness but that does not mean that thinking is bad. Human noggin thinking is a gift we have but we don't utilize it fully because we are on autopilot. Our noggin thinking is run by those conditioned mind loops that we have built up throughout our lives. When I suggest that we turn off the non-stop thinking of the noggin I am suggesting that we stop the autopilot; the perpetual conditioned mind loops of thinking that have become habitual. The noggin is a valuable tool but only when we, in an observer mode, control it rather than letting it control us while on autopilot.
You see, if we can switch our noggins out of the autopilot mode that they are habitually in then we are able to utilize a part of our noggin that, under autopilot, is turned off. But before we can do that we've got to turn the autopilot off and become an empty vessel through which Source consciousness can flow into this world. When we can surrender to this Source consciousness then our noggins can become extraordinarily powerful tools. There is a certain part of our noggin that is designed to receive, respond to and employ that Source consciousness flowing from our Source through us out into the world. That part of our noggin, however, does not function fully or even at all if we are on autopilot. Our habitual conditioned thought pattern loops keeps this portion of our noggin in a sleep mode. To activate this wondrous portion of our noggin we must turn off the autopilot and become an empty vessel through which Source consciousness can flow into this world. When we can do this then that special part of our noggin can be activated and we can start utilizing that Source consciousness.
What happens when we sit peacefully on a park bench and turn off the noggin's autopilot and become an observer? What happens when we become an empty vessel through which Source consciousness can flow out into this world? Something magical happens. It is called......
.....imagination.
Of the countless noggins in this world, the human noggin is unique in that it has a capacity known as imagination. It is something that is activated when the ego and all its conditioning and all the resulting mind loops are turned off and we become that aforementioned empty vessel. When we become an empty vessel then that Source consciousness flowing through us activates that sleeping portion of our noggin known as imagination. That is when our divine powers become activated. That is when our noggins no longer are detrimental and producing suffering and conflict and instead start becoming the divine tool that they are. That is when perception and awareness begin to change. And when perception and awareness changes so does our reality. Our reality is created by our perception and awareness!
Like so many before me, I can say, "Imagine a better world." But we cannot do that until we turn off the noggin autopilot and become an empty vessel through which Source consciousness can flow in order to activate our divine gift of imagination. Without that empty noggin, that empty vessel, our attempts at imagination are really just mental masturbation. It's not real imagination. It is merely a hopeless attempt at rearranging our autopilot scripts. Real imagination is the prism, the empty vessel that turns the light of consciousness into a rainbow. It is what turns the divine into something we can personally experience. Without true imagination we cannot actualize heaven on earth. Without it we cannot experience our divinity. Without it we cannot truly know life.
So while I am constantly denigrating the noggin I must emphasize that the noggin is a wonderful thing. It is a supreme gift. But it does us little good when it is on autopilot, running off of the many scripts we have accumulated throughout our life. The noggin holds one of our most powerful divine tools and that is imagination. But to turn on that tool we must get out of autopilot and become an empty vessel so that we can allow that Source consciousness flowing through us to activate that near-dormant part of our noggin. We cannot activate it through intention or "will power," or banging our noggins against a wall. We activate it through surrender; through becoming an empty vessel. We must step back and become an observer of what our noggins are doing. That is what enables us to surrender. That is what enables us to become an empty vessel to allow Source consciousness to flow through us and activate that delightful semi-dormant part of our noggin called imagination.
Park benches are invaluable tools for this.

The Fountain of Youth
Have you ever noticed how young kids have a seemingly endless imagination? That is because they have not yet fully developed the entraining autopilot mind loops that adults have constantly running through their noggins. They are still at least partially open vessels through which Source consciousness can flow through. Their noggins are not yet contaminated by conditioned habitual thought patterns. They are still connected with Source. Their imaginations are still active.
But as they grow up and "mature" their conditioned habitual thought patterns increase and eventually become dominant and eventually take over their noggins. In the process their imagination decreases and eventually almost disappears. The process of maturation in a human is a conditioned mind process of shutting down the imagination and establishing "accepted" egoic mental conditioned and habitual thought patterns. That is what we call growing up. It is a process of shutting down to the divine Source consciousness flowing through us and giving us life.
Is this the cause of "aging?" Just wondering.
Is our ever-elusive quest for the "fountain of youth" really a process of breaking down all those mental thought patterns that we have accumulated in our lives in order to, once again, become an empty vessel like a young child? Is this the process of rejuvenation? Is aging caused by the atrophying of our imagination? Is our imagination the "fountain of youth?" If it is then we cannot find it anywhere outside of our selves. We can only find it when we become an empty vessel and allow that Source consciousness to flow through us unimpeded, thus reactivating our divine gift of imagination.
In these short paragraphs did I just divulge the secret to rejuvenation? Did I just find a cure for aging? If I did I think I should get the Nobel Prize.
Silly me.

The Empty Vessel Mantra
I am an empty vessel through which Source may flow into this world.
Are you tired of hearing me say that yet? Don't be. It is actually an extremely powerful mantra. If you utilize mantras and affirmations I would suggest giving this one a try. Before saying it, make sure your noggin is emptied of all thought. Then touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth as you take a deep breath in through your nose. Then release your tongue from the roof of your mouth as you exhale through your mouth while saying the mantra in your head. Do it three times (always in threes). Do this at least three times a day for one lunar cycle (28 days). Do not alter the words in any way and always be sure that your noggin is free of all thought and your body is free of all emotion as you do this.

The Pinwheel Game
Mantras and affirmations are delightful tweaking tools. But so are visualizations and games. I recently made up a fun visualization game that I want to share with everyone. But first I need to blabber some more.....
I have been talking about imagination and how we can activate it through becoming an empty vessel. There is something else we can activate through becoming an empty vessel and that is inspiration. If the noggin is the seat of imagination then what is the seat of inspiration? It is the human heart.
So what is inspiration? Let's first check the dictionary.....
Inspiration - 1. an inhaling, 2. being inspired mentally or emotionally, 3. any stimulus to creative thought or action.
Inspire - 1. to inhale, 2. to stimulate or impel, as to some creative effort, 3. to motivate as by divine influence, 4. to arouse a thought or feeling in someone, 5. to occasion or cause.
First let me say that my word usage does not exactly coincide with the dictionary but it is very close. It is important to understand that we are constantly generating mental and emotional loop patterns. Mental activity takes place in the noggin and emotional activity takes place in the body. They go hand-in-hand. Every emotion is accompanied by a corresponding thought and every thought is accompanied by a corresponding emotion. Emotions are our body's biochemical reaction to thoughts and thoughts are our noggin's biochemical reaction to emotions. It's hard to tell which comes first. They loop in an ongoing circular pattern. Our noggins and our bodies are constantly generating these mental/emotional reactions.
I've said this a million times but I'll say it once more: Emotions and feeling are two very different things. Emotions are biochemical reactions within our body (in response to thought). Feeling is NOT generated from within us but rather from outside of us. Feeling is consciousness/energy flowing from our Source through us. Feeling is the universal language. Feeling is unconditional love. Feeling is the substance spewing out from the Source of All That Is and flowing through All That Is. Feeling is the Source consciousness/energy that we are made of. It is what we were before we took on bodies, it is what gives life to these bodies and it is what we will continue to be after we lay the bodies down. When I use the word Source in the mantra above this is what I am talking about. It is feeling flowing through us.
Sadly, we are for the most part unaware of this feeling energy flowing through us. Why? Because we are stuck in the aforementioned mental and emotional loop patterns. That is where our awareness is and that is what we identify with. Those mental and emotional loop patterns are so pervasive that we have lost awareness of the Source feeling energy flowing through us.
To regain awareness of that Source consciousness/energy flowing through us we must turn off that mental and emotional activity and become an empty vessel. In the thoughtless yet keenly alert observer mode of the empty vessel we become aware of that feeling flowing through us and we can then utilize it to create reality with through imagination and inspiration. With the mental and emotional activity turned off, imagination and inspiration gets turned on. It is this feeling energy that activates imagination and inspiration and instead of operating out of mental/emotional loops we can operate out of an imagination/inspiration loop. Our noggins and our bodies will still be working together but in a whole new way. Instead of biochemical circuitry we will be using electrical feeling circuitry.
So when we become that empty vessel imagination is activated in the noggin and inspiration is activated in the heart center. It happens simultaneously.
Surely everyone is familiar with those novelty plastic pinwheels that kids will play with. A plastic pinwheel is tacked onto a stick. As you hold the stick you blow into the pinwheel and it furiously spins around. Surely everyone has experienced this, right? Well, the game I came up with involves visualizing two of these pinwheels; one in your noggin and one in your heart. To make a pinwheel turn you need wind so let's pretend that the Source consciousness/energy flowing through us is wind. So the object of the game is to shut down the mental and emotional loops and become an empty vessel so that we can become aware of that feeling flowing through us which we are going to pretend is wind. As we do this that wind spins the two pinwheels we are visualizing in our noggin and heart.
But every time a thought or emotion is generated we close off to that wind and the pinwheels stop spinning. The only way we can keep the pinwheels spinning is to remain an empty vessel, free of mental and emotional loop patterns. The pinwheels represent imagination and inspiration. The wind of Source flowing through us will spin them as long as we remain an empty vessel. Mental and emotional patterns shut down the empty vessel and block the wind.
It's just a silly game but try playing with it. See how long you can keep those pinwheels spinning. It takes some alert attention in order to maintain a dual visualization of the two separate pinwheels but you can't really think about it much because that shuts off the wind. Playing the game can help build our ability to maintain alert attention without thinking. This is the observer mode of the empty vessel. It goes against our conditioning so it takes practice and perseverance to build that ability back up. The more we practice, the longer we will be able to maintain that state of alert attention and it will also become easier to visualize at the same time. And the more we do this, the more our imagination is activated and the more inspired we become.
You might want to first try the game while sitting still in quietude. Then try playing it while taking a walk in nature. Then try playing it while walking through a crowded shopping mall or busy city street. I guarantee you that it will be easier to play the game in nature. Like most games, it can be fun but remember it's just a game. It is what the game is pointing towards and getting you to do that is important. Utilizing the above mantra in conjunction with the game can only help.
Have fun with it.

The Heart Window
If we study the etymology of the word, inspire, we learn that it is derived from ancient words meaning, 'in spirit.' So to inspire or be inspired we are opening up a window (the heart) and letting spirit in so that we can be in spirit or with spirit. The ancients called that Source consciousness/energy flowing through us, 'spirit.' The word, 'spirit,' has developed numerous other connotations over time so I choose to stick with Source consciousness/energy/feeling--or some combination thereof. The important thing to remember is that it is the human heart center that is the window we must open in order to let this Source consciousness in.
The human heart is the inspiration center, the portal through which Source consciousness enters us and flows through us. When the window/portal is fully open that Source consciousness flows through us unimpeded and we experience a state of inspiration. The heart yearns for this state of inspiration. It is what keeps the heart healthy and vibrant.
But when we are in a noggin/emotion circuitry, as opposed to an imagination/inspiration circuitry, the window is closed. The heart still craves inspiration, though. Since we are not getting the natural inspiration from Source consciousness we try to find it through our mental/emotional circuitry. We try to find inspiration through sensory and mental stimulation. We turn to art and music and literature and pornography and movies and alcohol and cannabis and drugs and sex. There seems to be a plethora of things out in the physical world that provide inspiration. But that is a very different kind of inspiration. It is based on thought and emotion and it is ephemeral and unsustainable. Instead of feeding the heart, it feeds the mental/emotional circuitry. While this can be temporarily empowering it is also simultaneously draining because the heart is not being fed and bathed in the Source consciousness it was designed to be a conduit for.
If, however, we can become an empty vessel, thereby opening the window of the heart, then we can experience the true limitless supply of inspiration that feeds the heart and the imagination/inspiration circuitry. We can then experience all the sensations of the physical world in a very different way. We can then see inspiration in all things because the inspiration flowing through us from Source fills all things that we come into contact with. We are no longer trying to get inspiration out of the things in the physical world but we are rather filling all those things with the inspiration flowing through us. That is when we become truly inspired. That is how we manifest heaven on earth. That seemingly simple directional change in flow changes everything.

Biochemical Battlefield
The big problem with humans is that they no longer feel. Remember, I said that there is a huge difference between feeling and emotion. Human dictionaries consider these terms synonymous but they are anything but. Emotions are biochemical responses triggered within the body in response to thoughts generated in the noggin. True feeling is an electrical flow of consciousness/energy/unconditional love generated outside of ourselves flowing from the universe and our Source through us. I wish, years ago, I had come up with a better word for what feeling truly is. Human languages don't have words to describe this flow of energy passing through us and that is no wonder since humans have mostly lost all touch with it.
Humans have become lost in their mental/emotional thinking patterns. But on a sub-atomic level they have a faint memory of that flow of Source energy and this memory occasionally oozes up into levels of consciousness in which the mental/emotional thinking patterns operate. With this faint memory of feeling, humans endeavor to recreate it and once again experience it. But being consciously unaware of that feeling flow, they don't realize that there is nothing to create and they try to recreate it through the biochemical mental/emotional circuitry that they seem stuck in. They try to create a biochemical charge that is as powerful as the electrical feeling charge that they vaguely remember--but no biochemical charge can ever equal the limitless electrical charge of that feeling consciousness flowing through them at all times that they are not even aware of.
Human sexual orgasm and the ingesting of psychotropic drugs can come close to creating a powerful charge but they are still biochemical charges. They may be of a "higher" vibrational charge than most mental/emotional reactions but they still only hint at the much higher electrical charge of true feeling energy. Humans try to generate intense levels of biochemical mental/emotional charges all the time. For many it becomes an addiction. They will seek all manner of stimuli to intensify the biochemical circuitry to more intense levels and the more they do this, the deeper entrenched they become in that biochemical circuitry and the less aware and more out of touch they become with the Source consciousness constantly flowing through them. It is like humans are walking through the river without getting wet. That is how oblivious they are to the flow.
And it is our thinking that keeps us unaware. You would think that the terms, 'thinking' and 'awareness' would be synonymous but they are anything but. Thinking is merely a cognitive function of the biochemical noggin. Awareness is what happens when thinking stops. (Much like feeling is what happens when emotions stop.) All our attempts at creating the most sensational biochemical mental/emotional charge are folly and wasted effort. To experience the ultimate charge--the universal Source consciousness charge that trumps all biochemical charges--there is nothing that can be done......except to surrender to it.
All the effort we put into searching for enlightenment or finding happiness or becoming successful or rich or finding true love is all really just resistance we put up against that which we already have flowing through us at all times. It is all an attempt NOT to surrender. As long as we are trying or searching then we are not surrendering. We cannot fully embrace that limitless and eternal flow of Source consciousness/ energy/unconditional love until we become an empty vessel and surrender to it. We are conditioned to believe that surrender is bad and that we should fight to the death. And that is exactly what we do.

I Like Rocks
Have you ever wondered what a big ole rock feels as it is touched by the first rays of sunshine in the morning? I have. What's that you say? Rocks can't feel? Well, I beg to differ. "Oh yeah?" you say, "How do you know rocks can feel?" I don't. How do you know they can't? I choose to see all things as imbued with consciousness. I see life in all things. Rocks may vibrate at a very slow rate (the slower you vibrate, the more physically dense you are) but I see them as created from and filled with the very same unconditional love of Source consciousness/energy as we humans are created from and filled with. Everything in our physical world comes from the same Source consciousness before it takes on form in physicality. That unconditional Source consciousness is feeling so if a rock comes from feeling then how can it not feel?
While humans are so totally preoccupied with thinking and emoting that they have lost awareness of that feeling that gives them life, rocks, who don't do much thinking and emoting, are probably far more capable of feeling than many humans. How can a rock not feel the first rays of sunshine in the morning? If I were a rock I would be practically trembling with excitement and anticipation during those last minutes before sunrise. That is how I am as a human, but only because I've made it a spiritual practice to go outside in the early morning and to stop all thoughts and emotions in order to become an empty vessel to greet the sun as it pokes its magnificence above the horizon. Rocks do not have to become empty vessels. They already are empty vessels. In this way they are far more capable of allowing feeling to flow through them. Their feeling capacity is great and I am convinced that their level of joy vibration (a feeling-tone vibration) increases substantially upon being touched by the first rays of sunshine of the day. That joy vibration is how my human body, which is made of rocks and water, responds to the sunrise.

One Deep Breath At a Time
Okay, I can hear someone thinking, "So we're supposed to just give up, 'surrender' and sit on some park bench watching life go by? We're supposed to stop thinking and become an empty vessel like some dumb rock, doing nothing?"
You could do that but that is not at all what I am suggesting. I am not suggesting that we totally stop thinking and taking action. What I am trying to point out is the state of being from which we take action. We can either react or respond to life. When we are closed off to the Source consciousness flowing through us and are strictly in a mental/emotional circuitry, all of our actions are reactions. We react to everything through conditioned mental/emotional patterns. When we become an empty vessel in order to open up to that Source consciousness flowing through us we then switch to an imagination/inspiration circuitry and then we respond to life rather than reacting to it. Becoming an empty vessel allows us to become the observer of our thoughts and actions, thus enabling us to be consciously aware of directing those thoughts and actions instead of allowing those thoughts and actions to be merely automatic reactions generated by conditioned mental/emotional patterns. The combination of being a consciously aware observer and allowing and feeling that torrent of Source energy flowing through us enables us to respond to life through inspiration and imagination (rather than reacting to life the way we always have). Stepping out of our mental/emotional circuitry into the observer mode we become aware of that torrent of Source consciousness/energy and we are then able to utilize it as it flows through us and activates our imagination and inspiration centers. This is what transforms our lives.
Sitting on park benches and contemplating large rocks are merely exercises and practices that help us switch from mental/emotional circuitry to imagination/inspiration circuitry thereby entering the observer mode in order to utilize that glorious flow of Source consciousness/energy. Most humans are in a mental/emotional circuitry 99.7% of the time. For many, the only time they ever leave that state is when they are confronted by some sudden traumatic event. It takes practice and patience to switch circuitries because it goes against all of our conditioning. It can take countless hours of sitting on a park bench in order to get used to that flow that we are normally unaware of. The more we become aware of and feel that flow of Source consciousness/energy, the more comfortable we become with it and the more we like it.....and the easier it becomes to connect to it. Eventually we won't have to sit on a park bench contemplating rocks in order to switch from reacting to responding. We'll be able to do it as we go about our daily activities. Switching from a mental/emotional circuitry to an imagination/inspiration circuitry will eventually take only as long as it takes to take one deep breath.
You may be at work or in the classroom or at the grocery store or shopping mall or in any setting and suddenly a situation arises that calls for some action on your part. Instead of immediately reacting, take a deep breath and in the moment of that breath become an empty vessel so that your imagination and inspiration can be activated by that Source energy that flows through you just as your breath does. Then you can respond by taking creative, joyful and inspired action. That creative, joyful and inspired action then imbues the situation with Source energy, thereby transforming the situation. Simply reacting to the situation through mental/emotional circuitry only perpetuates the mental/emotional circuitry and nothing is ever transformed.
Sitting on park benches and contemplating big rocks can help us become aware of and connect to the Source consciousness/energy flowing through us but it is our actions taken from that state of awareness that transform our reality.
